THE ULTIMATE TEAM BUILDING GAME

Teams are groups of individuals who identify a common goal of interest and who are committed to working together to attain that goal. As part of that commitment, they plan, set goals and objectives, design a plan of action, implement that plan, and perform effective follow up to identify areas to build upon and areas that require improvement.

Effective teams are characterized by high productivity. They thrive on openness, honesty, and trust. They have clear and defined purpose, share values and rules, carry on effective communication, and hold effective meetings.

Laser Storm is an excellent way for members of your organization to learn about team building and put into practice what they've learned. The futuristic adventure game is so effective in developing team-building skills because players actually get into the action. Laser Storm teams set definitive goals and objectives, and have the opportunity to assess their performances in quantitative ways so they can plan steps for improvement. The game encourages cooperation and communication.

ABOUT THIS WORKBOOK

Your Laser Storm team-building workbook contains several parts. Following this brief introduction, you'll find a facilitator's section. The person acting as the facilitator for the overall Laser Storm team-building exercise uses these pages to organize their ideas and plans. Team worksheets are next and help the team members organize their plans for each game. These pages will vary from team to team. There are six sets of game worksheets in this work book providing enough work sheets for 2 teams to play 3 games. These forms will help team members plan and make adjustments from one game to another.

Efficiently run meetings are a crucial part of the team building process. These meeting should have a definite time limit, a designated leader and a defined agenda. Whether it is a preliminary meeting lead by the facilitator in a Laser Storm meeting room prior to beginning the overall team-building exercise, or a shorter meeting between games led by team leader, the meeting should always point towards constructive follow-up action.

A brainstorming forum is also included in this workbook. Brainstorming is a useful technique that can help team members solve problems they may encounter in the course of a game. Remember, brainstorming should be led by the team leader and should be non-judgmental, encouraging the flow of ideas. Make sure each idea is noted without regard to merit. At the close of the session, assess the ideas and design a plan of action.

ABOUT LASER STORM

At Laser Storm, players of all ages compete against each other in a blacklight lit maze. Played in a safe and harmless environment, the game is based on a mythological tale of two inter-galactic miners fighting to possess valuable DNA that could be used to conquer and rule the galaxy. This forms an excellent basis for setting goals and objectives.

Two teams enter the arena. A red and a green team face off in a maze of obstacles, with each team member wearing a vest, headset and light blaster. The blasters shoot harmless simulated laser beams that score points when they strike the headset or blaster of an opposing team member. When struck, a player's laser power is lost and they must be recharged at a nearby energizing station.

The arena has an assortment of flashing strobe lights, fog and various props that add to the thrill and intrigue of the game. Each team can have up to 15 players. The game process will last from 20 to 30 minutes.

Participants receive a personal score card showing how many times they were hit, how many times they struck their opponents, total shots fired, shooting accuracy and total team scores. Most valuable players are identified as well as the player’s overall rank. This computer-generated scoring system allows team members to assess their individual and combined effectiveness in accomplishing their goals and objectives, and gives them an excellent starting point to establish new goals and develop ways to meet them.

GOOD LUCK LASER STORM TEAM MEMBERS!
